Agreement Signed with MTV Byggivirkið for the Building of the Simulator Facility

Today, an agreement was signed between Atlantic Airways and MTV Byggivirkið for the building of a helicopter simulator facility in the industrial area above the airoprt. MTV Byggivirkið will carry out the project as a general contractor, with subcontractors Orkuloysnir, LM Electric, Gólvfix and Málarameistarin Signar á Fríðufløtum.

The contract was signed by Mortan Vang, CEO, and Óluva Vang, project manager on behlaf of MTV Byggivirkið, and by Niels Mortensen, chairman, and Jóhanna á Bergi, CEO, on behalf og Atlantic Airways.

"This is a very exciting project for us. It's different from what we typically build, and it's something taht will represent the Faroe Islands externally. It also helps us, as a construction company, make our mark" says Mortan Vang.

"Today, we've taken a major step forward with this simulator, which is a significant advancement for the Faroese aviation. Additionally, it represents a new business area for Atlantic Airways," says Niels Mortensen, chairman of Atlantic Airways, who is pleased that the construction is now underway.

The building, which will be heated using geothermal energy, will be approximately 1,500 square meters, and by mid-November this year, the hangar is expected to be ready. This will mark the start of the simulator installation.

The building was designed by Mayfinn Norðoy of the architecture firm Kontrast, drawing inspiration from the islands Lítla Dímun and Stóra Dímun.

The Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy will be ready to welcome its first helicopter pilots to the simulator in summer 2024, with the building itself expected to be completed by October of the same year.

The simulator is the most advanced model available for helicopter training today. It is an AW139 Reality H Full Flight helicopter simulator that provides top-tier flight training based on real-world environments. Additionally, this simulator can train crews in search and rescue operations, which is crucial for Faroese helicopter crews who serve in 24/7 emergency response throughout the year. The helicopter training offered by the Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy will therefore provide a comprehensive solution for both pilots and rescue personnel, as noted in a press release.
